The best thing about Microsoft products is they try to support almost everything just like the OS does, that is what makes it better. IE supports 99% of the online applications, and the others don't, especially if it is a technology developed by Microsoft. Try using those other browsers to load a page made using .Net or .ASP. Microsoft is unbiased to technologies and supports even the ones they may not like personally. Just like IT handyan said...when it comes to Enterprise usage..IE simply just works with the least amount of hassle. Here where I work me and my IT partner are always fighting (not in a bad way) over IE vs Firefox and Windows vs Linux...bec we use both here on some level. I too have FF3 installed and I here and there use it. in my own tests I found that FF3 can be just as slow as IE once you install every sngle plugin you can. Many needed plugins aren't even avialble for Chrome or Opera and even Safari. Opera and Safari are for those who want simply web browsing. Those users compare to using WordPad vs Microsoft Word. Becauseof this it is easy to say these browsers are faster than IE. That is because it is using way less code because it isn't expected to dd what IE does..and they don't. The true comparison would be IE and FF3. I too like teh fact you can skin the browser. But that doesn't make it better. Being faster doesn't equate to better either. A Lamborghini is faster than a vette, but teh vette is going to be easier on your wallet when it is tie to fix it...so thus it is a better buy. It is nice to finally see some competition to Microsoft's products. It does give us a chance to see how good or bad they truly are. Someone asked me once, if everything in the world was good all the time...how would you know if anything was bad. Simple. It wouldn't matter because everything would be good. IE was definitely better than Netscape ever was and Netscape came with a price. if you can get a better product for free then of course it would be more appealing. Now that they all are free now there is a real war. But these other guys to me prove just have much better MS products already are, and that they also need to improve. In fact IE isn't less secure then the other browsers. Fact is because IE is used most if you want to exploit a person PC, it is better to take teh time to develop the exploitation for IE or Outlook because you have a better chance of getting it out there. Since Opera and Safari are used by 1% of the market and IE has 80% which one would you write a virus or exploitation for? I can care less about what addon a browser has if they provide no benefit outside of itself. The fact that IE works with all web media means it is overall a better choice. Sure it has flaws, but based on recent tests it has way less of them. Kudos to MS as they are working harder to get better and compatition promotes this.
